UGT sees “unfeasible” adequate assistance in the centers with the planned cut and Satse calls a concentration before a measure that he calls “nonsense”
“Adequate care for people who reside in many centers is unfeasible if we respect the decrees and instructions that currently exist and cut staff, as it is intended to do at the end of this month.” This is how forceful is the warning issued by the UGT union when referring to the cessation of the 165 Covid reinforcement contracts that the Ministry of Social Policy plans to undertake this week, and that will affect the eleven publicly owned centers that depend on the Autonomous Community . A warning that the CC OO union launched on Monday with a concentration at the gates of the headquarters of the Murcian Institute of Social Action (Imas). To this is added, the same union sources recall, “the ‘handicap’ that supposes the fact that we no longer have the support and tutelage of Corecaas in the centers that are currently with active outbreaks.”
They demand Social Policy to “assume its responsibilities” in terms of “promoting a new care model”
In addition, UGT yesterday demanded Imas and the Ministry of Social Policy to “assume their responsibilities” in regard to “promoting a new model of residential care” – one of the commitments made by the counselor and vice president of the regional government , Isabel Franco, upon taking office–, and that «establish clear procedures in this stage of new normality where we need to protect the vulnerable population». Likewise, the union “is carrying out technical and legal consultations”, according to the same sources, with the aim of “modifying the decree of ratios of direct care personnel in these centers”. Based on these queries, UGT estimates that the ratios in the Imas-dependent centers should experience an increase of at least 10%, and they recall that “the joint order of the Murcian Health Service (SMS) and the Imas where it is established that the sectorization of the centers requires a greater staffing”.
“Attention is not valued”
The CC OO Monday rally will be followed by another this Friday for the same reason, called in this case by the Satse Nursing Union at the gates of the Ministry of Finance. Sources from this organization called the cessation of the contracts “nonsense”, and criticized that those responsible for the Community “have no intention of making any of these places structural, as we have requested on many occasions.”
In Satse’s opinion, “the care provided in residences or occupational centers is not valued,” and the union fears that “the Administration wants us to return to pre-pandemic ratios.”
Imas will only keep reinforcements in centers “with active outbreaks”
Sources from the Ministry of Social Policy explained yesterday that “the reinforcement contracts signed due to the pandemic will remain in force in those residences that register active outbreaks.” That is, in those that report a single positive case, according to current protocols. “The increase in the incidence of coronavirus has led the Ministry not to relax prevention measures against Covid-19,” according to the same sources.
However, Satse rejected this “patchwork” because “it means bread for today and hunger for tomorrow.” From this union they recalled that “these places should be structural”, and they wondered “what will happen to the attention to the users of the centers where there are no outbreaks”. For its part, UGT recalled that the hiring of dismissed personnel “may take more than two weeks” from the detection of the outbreak.
