The Public Ministry sees indications that the former president committed “abuse of political power” by sowing unfounded suspicions about the legitimacy of the electronic ballot boxes that Brazil used in its electoral processes since 1996, according to the newspaper O Globo.
The case is processed under summary secrecy in the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) that, if he chose to follow the opinion of the Prosecutor’s Office, he could prevent Bolsonaro from contesting new elections in the next eight years.
The declaration of the Prosecutor’s Office is signed by the electoral general prosecutor, Paulo Gonet, and was received by the court on Wednesday night, according to the newspaper.
The action, one of several that take place in el TSE against Bolsonaropart of a complaint from the Democratic Labor Party presented after the meeting that Bolsonaro held with a group of 40 ambassadors on July 18 at the presidential residence.

He also insinuated that some of the members of the Electoral Justice and the Supreme Court have “clear links” with “the left” and accused them of benefiting Lula with their decisions.
According to ‘O Globo’, the opinion of the Prosecutor’s Office is the last phase of the judicial investigation and there is an expectation that the case will be judged “between the end of April and the beginning of May”.
