The Russian Federation introduced an amendment tightening the requirements for the residence of migrants
The State Duma adopted an amendment that will significantly tighten the requirements for migrants to live in Russia. We are talking about increasing the period of marriage to three years for those who want to obtain a temporary residence permit (TRP) in the country in connection with marriage with a citizen of the Russian Federation.
At the moment, marriage to a Russian man or woman is an easy way for migrants to obtain a temporary residence permit. At the same time, according to the law, there are no restrictions on being married, so in order for foreigners to receive an advantage, the very fact of marriage is enough, which is established in the sixth article of the Federal Law “On the Legal Status of Foreign Citizens in the Russian Federation.”
The adopted amendment allows the temporary residence permit to be annulled if the marriage is declared invalid. The authors of this initiative were Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin and Head of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs Leonid Kalashnikov.
