the slovenian primoz roglic (Jumbo Visma), second overall and winner of the last three editions, did not start on the stage of the Tour of Spain 2022 this Wednesday between Aracena (Huelva) and the Tentudía Monastery (Badajoz) as a result of the damage suffered in the crash of Tuesday’s stage ending in Tomares (Seville).
His team, the Jumbo Visma, has announced through social networks that “unfortunately, Roglic will not be at the start of stage 17 as a result of yesterday’s crash”.
“Get well soon, champion! Thank you for all the beautiful moments of this Vuelta. You had ambitious plans for the last few days, but unfortunately it’s not meant to be”, adds the Jumbo, encouraging his rider.

The consequences of Roglic’s fall
Yesterday, the Slovenian rider suffered “polycontusions and superficial injuries on the right side as a result of a fall on the finish line of the sixteenth stage of the Vuelta a España, played between Sanlúcar de Barrameda and Tomares.”
According to the report signed by the race doctors, the three-time winner of the Vuelta suffers “polycontusions, superficial injuries to the elbow, hip and knee on the right side that have required local treatment.”
Roglic, who had launched an attack 2.7 km from the finish line, was in full sprint with four other runners when a brush with the British Fred Wright (Bahrain) unbalanced him and he fell heavily against the asphalt.
The Slovenian crossed the finish line with the same time as the stage winner, Dane Mads Pedersen, and 8 seconds ahead of Belgian and race leader Remco Evenepoel.
Roglic’s retirement allows the Colombian Miguel Ángel López to move up one place in the general classification: he is now fifth, with the same difference with respect to Evenepoel, 5 minutes and 24 seconds, but now he is closer to the podium, 35 seconds from third. Juan Ayuso.
