The former commander of the 58th Army of the Russian Armed Forces, Ivan Popov, is suspected of embezzlement, the damage from which the investigation estimates at 100 million rubles. This is reported by Telegram– SHOT channel.
According to investigators, the military man was involved in the sale of metal received as humanitarian aid for the construction of engineering structures. We are talking about the construction of a defense line in the zone of a special military operation (SVO), clarifies “112”. The ex-commander was removed from service a year ago.
The investigation considers a Krasnodar businessman and an officer of the Southern Military District to be Popov’s accomplices; their names have not yet been disclosed. Preliminarily, the amount of damage amounted to about 100 million rubles.
Popov was sent to a pre-trial detention center for two months. The preventive measure was chosen by the court on May 17, but this became known only on May 21. The decision to arrest was made by the 235th Garrison Military Court in Moscow.
