On a historic day for democracy in Mexico, the largest elections in the country’s history are taking place, with an estimated participation of around 98 million voters. At the national level, approximately 20 thousand public positions will be renewed.
In the state of Yucatán it is no exception. Among the positions to be disputed are the governorship, 587 councilors, 106 unions, 106 municipal presidencies and 35 local councils.
In Yucatán, the race for governor has been particularly close. The candidates vying for this position are Renan Barrera, from the PAN-PRI-New Alliance; J.oaquín Díaz Menafrom the Morena-PT-PVEM alliance; Vida Gomez, of Citizen Movement; and the PRD Jazmin Lopez.
PREP results at 11:30 p.m.
The 2024 Preliminary Electoral Results Program (PREP), in charge of providing the first data on the voting, has begun to release the initial figures based on the tally and counting records of the boxes received at the Collection and Transmission Centers. Data (CEDAT).
So far, PREP’s preliminary results place Joaquín “Huacho” Díaz Mena of the Morena-PT-PVEM alliance with a significant advantage over his competitors in the race for governor of Yucatán, by add 6,207 votes, which corresponds to 47% of the count.
Renán Barrera, who represents the PAN-PRI-Nueva Alianza coalition, is in second place with 43% of the votes totaling 5,516, followed by Vida Gómez of Movimiento Ciudadano and Jazmín López of the PRD, who have 547 and 75 votes respectively.
Although PREP results are not final, they provide an early view of the electorate’s preferences and are a crucial indicator for the parties and candidates in the race.
As the PREP count progresses, it is expected that the electoral landscape will become more clearly defined.
