In 2021, multiple reports emerged suggesting that EA intended to abandon the license FIFA completely, and in this way, create your own soccer simulation game. Over time, additional details have been revealed to us about the reason behind this decision, and now we know what this new franchise that would start with this year’s new installment could be called.
In accordance with JeffGrub, recognized insider, FIFA23, as well as the successive installments of this series, will be called EA Sports Football Club, or EA Sports FC. According Grubb, EA no longer want to continue paying for the expensive license of FIFA, because the players of this type of experiences do not come for the name or the license, but for its gameplay. Apparently, as a result of this breakup, FIFA will be looking to partner with another developer to release their own titles.
At the end of last year, EA registered a trademark under the name of ‘EA Sports FC’which evidently coincides with the information of Grubb. During that same period of time, the company mentioned that they “were toying with the idea of renaming their soccer games and were in talks with the FIFA to review some of the existing agreements.” Taking all of the above into account, it is easy to assume that indeed, EA Sports FC will be the new name for the football titles of EA.
Publisher’s note: In addition to this name change, EA also went so far as to mention that they were considering changing the gameplay of these games, but I wouldn’t get my hopes up too high. I just hope this change is for the better, and fans of these games can get better experiences from now on.
