Pope announces two new Brazilian cardinals in August consistory

At the conclusion of the Regina Coeli this Sunday (5/29), Pope Francis announced the 21 new cardinals who will be created in the consistory that will take place on August 27, the first since November 2020. The list includes two Brazilian archbishops, Dom Leonardo Steiner, Archbishop of Manaus (Brazil), and Dom Paulo Cezar Costa, Archbishop of Brasília.

According to information from Vatican News, the list also includes the Archbishop of Dili, in East Timor, created in September 2019, Dom Virgílio do Carmo da Silva, 53 years old. The list also includes the Apostolic Prefect of Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, Archbishop Giorgio Marengo, only 48 years old, who will be the youngest in the College of Cardinals.
