Political scientist Kamkin considered Poland’s attempts to collect reparations from Germany as a solution to internal issues
Poland has no chance of getting reparations from Germany for the damage done during World War II. Such an assessment in a conversation with Lenta.ru was given by a senior researcher at the Institute of World Economy and International Relations (IMEMO) named after E.M. Primakov of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) Alexander Kamkin.
Warsaw’s statements about receiving compensation from Berlin are heard regularly, the political scientist recalled.
“A few years ago, around 2017-2018, the Polish government also raised this issue. But like trolling mister [посла Украины в Германии Андрея] Melnik, this topic did not even receive a reaction from Berlin. In general, we can say that after 1945 Germany paid large reparations to Poland, Czechoslovakia, and the Soviet Union. The issue of territorial claims and reparations was finally closed during “Eastern Treaties” German Chancellor Willy Brandt with Poland, Czechoslovakia and the Soviet Union. Now, under international law, Poland does not have the right to apply for any new reparations, ”he explained.

According to Alexander Kamkin, such loud statements are aimed at the citizens of Poland themselves.
Kaczynski’s statement is a move on the internal political audience, which has no real steps. No reparations to Poland shine. The issue of the post-war structure of relations between Germany and Eastern European countries has long been resolved and spelled out in the relevant fundamental documents.
The head of Poland’s ruling Law and Justice party, Jarosław Kaczynski, said that Warsaw did not intend to give up its positions on the issue of receiving reparations for damage from Germany suffered during World War II.
“We cannot back down, we cannot be soft. We cannot give to others and demand nothing in return, simply because it always ends badly,” the politician said.
According to Natematrepresentatives of the ruling party of Poland, with the approach of the next parliamentary elections, began to publicly raise the issue of reparations from Germany more often.
