Hermen Hulst, the CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, said that PlayStation’s “big games” portfolio has become very diverse over the years and the platform boasts a “bigger” community than ever before. Hulst made the comments during the latest episode of the official PlayStation podcast, where he and Team Asobi’s Nicolas Doucet talked about the Astro Bot launch.
No Concord, today is a holiday
For Hulst, it’s really important that PlayStation makes games of different genres, as if to underline the different nature of Astro Bot compared to the more recent Concord or the previous Helldivers 2. In fact, Hulst didn’t mention Concord during the podcast, which is understandable considering that the episode was published on the day the servers of the hero shooter that only lived a couple of weeks were shut down.
“Game launches are incredibly important and are different for every team,” Hulst said, explaining his particular interest in Astro Bot. “In my new role as CEO of the Studio Business Group at SIE, I now look a little more at the business side of a launch.”
Hulst went on to say that it is very important for PlayStation Studios targeting various genres, including the family game market. “PlayStation has a bigger community than ever before, and I think our portfolio of great games is more diverse now,” Hulst continued. “But with the launch of Astro, I think what we’re doing is celebrating what’s made PlayStation great over the years… it’s a celebration of joy and collaboration.”
