The 2021 world championship saw the introduction of a new rule inherent in the performance of pit stop, designed to allow operations on cars in a safer way for mechanics. Starting from the Belgian Grand Prix – even if the first actual race with this new system was staged in Monza, thanks to the suspension of the Spa test – the FIA has in fact imposed on the teams a new system to complete the tire change in less rapid times than those recorded at the beginning season, such as to represent a risk for the mechanics themselves.
With this rule, it is now practically impossible to stop under 2 seconds. Yet, after having carried out repeated tests in the last rounds of the world championship to adapt to the new regulation – also characterized by some errors – the Mexico City Grand Prix saw several teams stopped the clock just over 2 seconds. In this sense, the team that set the race record was there Williams, capable of completing operations on George’s car Russell in just 2.17 seconds. In doing so, the British team confirmed the skill and efficiency of their mechanics, awarded for the second time in 2021 with DHL Fastest Pit Stop.

In the pit lane of the circuit Hermanos Rodriguez, there have been other realities that have, however, touched on the Williams result. Among these could not miss the Red Bull, famous for setting speed records in stops. In this case, the Austrian house had to give in to the readiness of the Grove house, quicker for only 10 thousandths compared to the pit stop made by Verstappen. Finally, in third place in this special ranking is the Ferrari, recently criticized for having made some slow or mixed pit stops. The box of the Red was redeemed with Carlos Sainz, who left the box after only 2.33 seconds.
