Guillermo del Toro fans had to wait a while to see a production by the Mexican director again. Oscar winner for The Shape of Water, has teamed up with Netflix to present his new movie, a stop motion version of the classic Pinocchio.
The company announced in 2020 the actors that would be part of this film, which is co-directed by Del Toro with Mark Gustafson. To mark the announcement of Pinocchio’s premiere date on Netflix, a short preview was revealed with the first images with Ewan McGregor playing whom we will now know as Sebastian, the cricket.

According to the official statement from Netflix, Pinocchio reimagines Carlo Collodi’s classic tale about the wooden puppet that magically comes to life to mend the heart of a grieving carver named Geppetto. This stop motion animated musical will follow the adventures and mischief of the wooden boy on his quest to find his place in the world.
McGregor is joined in the cast of Pinocchio by David Bradley as Geppetto, Gregory Mann as Pinocchio, Finn Wolfhard, Cate Blanchett, John Turturro, Ron Perlman, Tim Blake Nelson, Burn Gorman, Christoph Waltz and Tilda Swinton round out the cast. Del Toro’s adaptation is set in Italy during the 1930s, a time when fascism is on the rise and Benito Mussolini is consolidating control of the country.
Pinocchio arrives on Netflix in December 2022.
