Phone call between Meloni and Zelensky: “I invited her to Ukraine”
Two days after the trust, Giorgia Meloni held her first telephone conversation with Volodimir Zelensky as prime minister. “I talked about the current situation in our country and invited her to visit Ukraine”, said the Ukrainian president, who hoped for “further fruitful cooperation”. “I congratulated Giorgia Meloni on her appointment as Italian prime minister,” Zelensky said on Twitter, adding that the two discussed “the integration of Ukraine into the EU and NATO”.

Before the phone call with Zelensky, Meloni also spoke today about Ukraine with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. According to Palazzo Chigi, “both have emphasized the strong partnership between Italy and Germany”. “Meloni recalled Italy’s commitment to supporting Kiev on the political, military, economic and humanitarian fronts and aware of how the reconstruction of Ukraine represents a crucial aspect”, said the Prime Minister. The two also discussed immigration, economic growth and energy, “in the light of the conclusions of the last European Council” which saw a partial opening for the gas price ceiling. On this, Meloni “reiterated the importance of the progress made at European level and reiterated the urgency of arriving, as soon as possible, at concrete measures to reduce energy prices”.
