Although the reception of the last Xbox Games Showcase was positive, the public does not forget that a few weeks ago Tango Gameworks, Arkane Austin and two more studios from Xbox They closed their doors. In this way, during an interview with IGN, Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, was questioned about this controversial decision, and His response was not liked by the public..
During his talk, Spencer noted that the closure of these four studios was a business decision. Along with this, he pointed out that the reason why he had not issued a statement on this, is that I wanted to give the teams the necessary space, and avoid the center of attention in this conversation. This is what he said about it:
“The closure of any team is obviously hard for the individuals there, hard for the team. I have not spoken publicly about this because now is the time to focus on the team and the people. Obviously, it’s a very difficult decision for them and I want to make sure, through severance and other things, that we’re doing the right thing for the people on the team. It’s not about my PR, it’s not about Xbox’s PR. It’s about those teams.
In the end, I’ve said it again and again, I have to run a sustainable business within the company and grow, and that means that sometimes I have to make difficult decisions that, frankly, are not decisions that I like, but decisions that someone You must take.
We will continue forward. “We will continue to invest in what we are trying to do at Xbox and build the best business possible, ensuring that we can continue making programs like the one we just made.”
Spencer avoided giving a clear reason why these four teams were shut down, especially considering the critical success of titles like HiFi Rush. This was not liked by many, who saw this decision as something that a soulless company would do, eliminating the public image that many had about Xbox.
At the moment it is unknown if other studies run the same risk, or what are the parameters that Xbox looks for in a computer. On related topics, they reveal the prices of the new Series X|S. Likewise, you can check out the Xbox Games Showcase summary here.
Author’s Note:
Phil Spencer may be right, in that at the end of the day it all comes down to a business decision, but we have seen that there are ways to avoid laying people off during a difficult period. Money will always be the answer and the problem, and in this case it is no exception.
