The developers of Phantom Blade Zero have shared some essential information about the gameso as to eliminate some doubts created by initial impressions, such as the possibility of it being a soulslike. The occasion was the post-Summer Game Fest, where the game returned to show itself in great shape with a demo.
The answers
The game director, Soulframe, answered some of the most frequently asked questions and tried to be as clear as possible. Meanwhile he tried to explain why the demo was made, starting from the success the game had during its presentation in last year’s PlayStation Showcase: “Since then, we have seen many doubts on social media, with some saying that the game could not be real.” In short, the goal of the demo was mainly to show that everything we’ve seen so far is real gameplay.
Clarity was also made on the soulslike issue: “those who have tried the demo should have the idea that it is not a soulslike. It is worth reiterating that we didn’t plan on making a new soulslikebut an adrenaline-pumping combat system based on combos, designed to be dynamic and fun.” However, it is admitted that some elements of the soulslike have been taken up, but more in the design of the maps than in the combat system. Furthermore, these are just a few things, with the team taking a different route for many aspects of the experience: “there will be options for difficulty and you will not have to face slain enemies again after you die and reach checkpoints.”
On the question PS5 exclusive, the release on PC is also confirmed. It is also said that S-GAME is an independent studio that does not have any exclusivity agreement with Sony. So the game could also be released on other platforms, without limitations, including Xbox
Finally, talking about the publication of the demo, it was said that it will happen when the development team is confident in being able to offer it to the public. For now it was only designed to be shown in a more controlled situation (to the press and influencers).
