The 2021 edition of Epoqu’Auto Salon in Lyon, which until November 7 will bring together all classic car enthusiasts. Many car manufacturers will take part in the French event, among which there is also Peugeot: the Lion brand will use the showcase of this event to celebrate its 211 years of history and to celebrate two anniversaries of as many iconic models, namely the Type 3 which turns 130 in this 2021 and the electric VLV which turns 80 instead.
As for the Type 3, we are talking about the four-seater developed by Peugeot in 1891 with the aim of making it follow the Paris-Brest-Paris cycling race, to take advantage of the publicity aroused by that event: from Valentigney to Paris, then to Brest and back, the Type 3 he traveled 2,045 kilometers at an average of 14.7 km / h, thus allowing thousands of French people to discover this model which was produced in the following three years in 64 units. Each of these specimens was equipped with a 565 cm3 V2 engine, capable of unleashing a maximum power of 2 HP. In combination, a 4-speed gearbox was offered. This is the first car delivered by Peugeot to a private customer: it was October 2, 1891 when Mr. Poupardin, resident of Dornach received his model of the car, which he had ordered on August 27 of the same year.
In addition to the Type 3, Peugeot will also celebrate the anniversary of the VLV. It made its debut on May 1, 1941, and immediately caught the attention due to its 100% electric motorization: the electric motor was capable of delivering up to 3.3 HP of total power, and was powered by 4 batteries of 12 volts, for a range of travel ranging from 75 to 80 kilometers. The maximum speed reached 36 km / h. It was one mini cabriolet, with two staggered seats, intended for urban use and mainly used by postmen or medical personnel: between 1941 and 1943, the electric VLV was produced in total 377 units.
