Peskov: The Ministry of Defense will be headed by a civilian, his lack of rank is not important
Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov, commenting on the proposal of the head of state Vladimir Putin to appoint former Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Belousov as the new Minister of Defense, called his lack of military rank not so important at present, reports TASS.
“Now this is not the main thing,” said a Kremlin official, speaking about the issue of assigning a military rank to Belousov. He also noted that the department will be headed by a civilian.
On May 12, Putin proposed appointing Belousov as Minister of Defense instead of Sergei Shoigu, who would become Secretary of the Security Council.
The Federation Council must inform Putin no later than a week later about the results of consideration of the submitted candidacy. The president will then be able to sign the decree of appointment.
