In La Mañanera on February 16, 2022, Andrés Manuel López Obrador spoke about the rumor that began to circulate yesterday about the resignation of Ciro Gómez Leyva for alleged reasons of censorship.

Given the rumours, the president of Mexico assured that his government has nothing to do with the issue, but that it is a affair of businessman Olegario Vázquezexecutive director of Grupo Empresaria Ángeles, to which Grupo Imagen belongs.
President López Obrador even speculated that there is a lawsuit between Ciro Gómez and his employer Olegario for how much more money should be paid to the journalist, words that echo the president’s statements about exhibiting the earnings of journalists he considers to be from the opposition, mainly Carlos Loret de Mola, but also other renowned ones such as Carmen Aristegui and Jorge Ramos.

It was as a result of a message on Twitter published by Ciro Gómez Leyva that the rumor spread about his possible resignation from the news program of Imagen Noticias, which he has been leading for more than five years.
The journalist declared that he feels proud to have directed the news during all that time, in what seemed to be a kind of farewell message.
“It has been a pride to direct and host #ImagenNoticias for more than 5 years. CGL,” Ciro Gómez wrote on his official Twitter account.
In a short time, renowned journalists and even the president of the Public Broadcasting System (SPR), Jenaro Villamil, fed the rumor about the departure of Gómez Leyva.
“In a message on his social network, Ciro Gómez Leyva says goodbye to the leadership of #ImagenNoticias,” declared Jenaro Villamil.
Later, the journalist himself denied the rumors at the end of his newscast, assuring that he wants to remain in charge of Imagen Noticias for a long time.
