Pepe Álvarez thanks Feijóo for the PP’s “commitment” to supporting the latest pension reform

The general secretary of UGT, Pepe Álvarez, thanked the leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, this Monday for his “commitment” to supporting the latest pension reform. elDiario.es published this decision of the Popular Party in October, although later the party leadership clarified that there was no “categorical response” to the party’s final position.

The union leader had a few words for the leader of the PP, sitting in the front row among those attending the 44th Confederal Congress of the UGT, in which Pepe Álvarez is expected to be revalidated as leader of the union for a third and final term. “I want to thank the PP for, beyond other issues in relation to this matter, it has committed to effectively supporting the latest pension agreement,” stated Álvarez.

The latest agreement on pensions, signed in September by Pedro Sánchez and the social agents in Moncloa, includes several measures that encourage the compatibility of the pension with work, such as advancing access to partial retirement, recognizing more rights for contracts of relievers and encourages the voluntary delay of retirement, through an increase in incentives for delayed retirement, among other measures.

elDiario.es has asked the Popular Party again about this support for the latest pension reform, but the party did not want to confirm or deny it.

In October, after Feijóo’s meetings with the leaders of the CCOO and UGT unions, sources from the PP leadership explained that the party intended to support the latest retirement reform agreed upon between the Government, the unions and employers in the social dialogue. if the text “arrives clean”. That is, without modifications.

Key to the relief contract

Pepe Álvarez thanked the leader of the PP for this “commitment” to support the latest pension reform, as he recalled that regulation is very important for the union. For several reasons, but especially it has highlighted the conditions it sets for “the relief contract”, which give legal certainty to this formula in the manufacturing industry, which has more advantageous conditions and which expire on December 31.

For this reason, the leader of the PP has urged the Government to approve the legislation now so that it can be submitted to a vote in Congress and finally appear in the Official State Gazette (BOE).

Alberto Núñez Feijóo, who has intervened in the Confederal Congress of the union to talk about his conciliation law, has not referred to this future vote in his speech. “I renew my commitment to the growth of pensions, and add that I believe that Spaniards lack sufficient information about their future. And it worries me. There is no room for error, as Serrat would say: Old people are pushed aside after having served us well,” he stated on the matter.

In this sense, Pepe Álvarez has asked not to incite fear about the future of pensions, which he has maintained benefits private plans. The leader of UGT has defended the future and sustainability of the public system, as well as its revaluation according to the CPI, thanks to the reforms undertaken with the coalition government, after negotiation in social dialogue.

Feijóo’s attendance at the UGT internal congress has left another striking scene, with the questioning of the second vice president and Minister of Labor, Yolanda Díaz, about the PP’s position regarding the reduction of working hours. “Are you going to do the same with the working day as with the labor reform?” Díaz asked him from the stage, surrounded by the applause of the audience.
