Over the last few weeks, several names of candidates to take the technical direction of Chivas de Guadalajara have sounded. After the untimely departure of Víctor Manuel Vucetich, the command of the team was assumed by Marcelo Michel Leaño. The rojiblanca board of directors has scrambled different options: since Leaño remains in charge of the team for the Clausura 2022 tournament until Matías Almeyda returns to the team.
In the middle of these two options, other technicians have been considered, such as Antonio Mohamed, Jaime Lozano, Diego Alonso, John Van’t Schip and Pedro Caixinha. The version that the Portuguese coach could be the next strategist of the Sacred Herd has gained strength in the last hours. The European coach, who had experiences in the MX League with Santos Laguna and Cruz Azul, would have been proposed by Ricardo Peláez, Chivas sports director, to fill the vacancy.
Pedro Caixinha is currently free, after ending his contract with Al-Shabab Riyadh of Saudi Arabia. The Portuguese coach has not directed since January 7, 2021. According to information from the Mediotiempo portal, Peláez would have proposed Caixinha after coinciding in the Celestial Machine.
According to this report, Ricardo Peláez is betting that the next Chivas de Guadalajara coach is a person with experience in Liga MX, so Caixinha and Diego Alonso cover the profile, however, a part of the board has certain reservations regarding Peláez’s proposal and they prefer Jaime Lozano.
It looks like the next Chivas manager would come out between these two options. For now, everything indicates that Marcelo Michel Leaño will finish the Grita México tournament in front of Chiverío.
