PSG (Paris Saint-Germain), the main team in French football, had a loss of € 225 million (R$ 1.2 billion at the current price) in the 2020/2021 season. This is what a report from a sports regulatory body in the country shows. Here’s the intact (5.7 MB, in English).
According to data from the DNCG (National Directorate of Control and Management), the loss in the club’s accounts grew by around 80% compared to the 2019/2020 season, when it was €124 million.
The effects of the pandemic and the TV rights crisis in Ligue 1, the main French football league, have affected PSG. But the Parisian team was not the only one of the season.
Of the 20 clubs that make up the league, 17 have recorded losses, including the traditional Lyon and Olympique de Marseille, which complete the top 3.
POOR PERFORMANCE
Even favourites, PSG lost the French Championship to Lille. Away from home, the team of stars such as Neymar, Mbappé and Messi reached the semifinals of the European Champions League, but ended up being defeated by Manchester City, from England.
