Colombian María José Uribe took a good step forward on Wednesday in pursuit of her Olympic dream. She finished with 70 strokes, two under par, in the first round of the women’s golf tournament at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and, from now on, enters the fight for the medals.

The Bucaramanga native had a spectacular start, with three birdies in the first four holes (1, 2 and 4) and was very close to scoring another one on the 3rd, where she missed a putt. She then scored bogeys on the 6th and 8th to go through with -1 on the first nine.
Mariajo then made another birdie on the 13th, scored a bogey on the 17th and closed again with a birdie on the 18th, where she even had the option, after a great second shot, to close with an eagle.
The Colombian is in third place on the leaderboard, with two under par, tied with the American Lilia Vu, Mexican Gaby López and the Swiss Morgane Metraux.
Frenchwoman Celine Boutier took advantage of her home court status and took first place with a spectacular round of 65 strokes (-7), with eight birdies and a solitary bogey.
Uribe ends her career in Paris 2024, the goal she set for herself to say goodbye to professional golf. She had already played in Rio 2016, where she suffered poisoning, and in Tokyo 2020, where she had just become a mother. Now she is looking for revenge.
