Senate President says he wants to prevent elections from contaminating committee investigations
The Senate President, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), denied this Tuesday (5.Jul.2022) that, behind the decision of the leaders of the House to only install the CPI (Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry) of the MEC after the elections, there is an attempt to avoid wear and tear political to the government of Jair Bolsonaro (PL).
In an interview with journalists, Pacheco stated that the installation of all CPIs with pending requests in the Senate after October will avoid the “Contamination” of research by “politicization and partisanship” typical of the electoral period.
Earlier, he had announced to House leaders that on Wednesday (July 6) he would read in plenary the request for opening the CPI of the MEC (Ministry of Education) as well as the commissions to investigate drug trafficking and organized crime and the unfinished works of Education from 2006 to 2018.
Most of the senators who lead the benches, however, asked that the installation of the collegiate bodies be left until after the elections.
After reading the requests, it is up to the leaders to nominate members of the CPI following the proportionality of the party blocs. They just need to hold the nominations until the end of 2022 to stop the immediate opening of the commissions.
“There is no deliberate, overt or even hidden will to favor or harm the government or the opposition”, declared Pacheco when asked about the Bolsonaro government being possibly the biggest beneficiary of the postponement of the CPIs.
