The City Council of Aldaia, one of the Valencian towns most affected by the catastrophic DANA, held a ordinary full in which the neighbors took the floor and expressed their indignation after the flood.
A session, the first since the tragedy, held during more than four hours in the Teatro del Mercado, in which those affected were able to send their questions to the municipal corporation led by Mayor Guillermo Luján (PSOE), who regretted the lack of warnings about the overflowing of the Saleta ravine, which crosses the municipality.
Compromís and the PP will ask for an investigative commission to shed light on municipal management in the most critical days. Precisely, the council’s response to the emergency, the need for more aid or the slowness of the reconstruction work, were some of the issues that the population put on the table.
«We were abandoned, we took away the shit. We are people, not animals», lamented a citizen, who thanked the work of the young volunteers and criticized, in his opinion, the poor presence of the councilors on the street. «I go to bed and wake up with the mud. And I ask myself: ‘Where are the people who represent me?’” he added.
But the anger of many was reflected in the intervention of a neighbor, who recounted what she had experienced since that fateful afternoon of October 29, worried about her daughter, who has a pump implanted to treat the hypertension she suffers from. “If it fails and more than an hour passes, you could have a heart attack,” he said.
«In a day and a half I couldn’t go outside. I called City Hall three times. “Madam, calm down, I see you very nervous.”. “I have recorded the voice of the police officer who answered me,” he denounced.
«It’s security. If my daughter has a heart attack, what do I do? I take a rifle and I take out the mayor, the first one next to me, then the one from Valencia and then the one from Madrid. In that order. I have never protested about anything, but this has already rubbed me the wrong way. No one touches my family. Do you want me to tell you how many sideburns I’m taking every day?” he said.
