Óscar Puente, Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, has warned that the damage to the railway structure caused by the DANA that has devastated the Valencian Community is serious and that traffic will take at least four days to be re-established.
In a note on his X profile (formerly Twitter), Puente has acknowledged that “The damage to the high speed between Madrid and Valencia is significant“and that”rresuming service in the next 4 days does not seem possible“.
However, Puente explained that “when we have a definitive diagnosis on the deadlines necessary to rebuild the line we will make it public.”
Circulation suspended since Tuesday afternoon
High Speed traffic between Madrid and Valencia was suspended last Tuesday afternoon and was maintained throughout the day on Wednesday. Renfe and Adif have reported the suspension, which has taken different qualifications: from “until further notice” to “all day long.”
Renfe’s calculations are 24,000 people affected by all the suspensions caused by DANA: 11,410 travelers this Wednesday on AVE or Long Distance, a figure to which are added the 2,722 from yesterday, due to the impact on the public operator it amounts to 14,130 people, reports Europa Press.
For their part, Iryo sources consulted estimate that 5,737 people have been affected by the traffic cut, with 20 trains that have stopped running in these two days. As for Ouigo, with fewer frequencies, the impact is around 4,000 travelers on the 10 services that connect Madrid with Valencia.
