“I don't see the conditions for an agreement, the foundations are missing.” This is Alessandro Orsini's opinion on the conflict in Gaza. It's still Cartabianca, the professor of sociology of international terrorism doesn't see an agreement between Hamas and Israel on the horizon. “Hamas is calling for a permanent ceasefire which would be the defeat for Israel, which would not be able to fire another shot. A new political process would begin not only in Gaza but also in Israel, with the fall of Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu. The agreement does not there is and I fear there won't be”, says Orsini.
“Israel has so far attacked the north of Gaza, then bombed the centre. Now the Palestinians have moved to Rafah which has 1.2 million inhabitants and when Israel opens fire on Rafah it will be a massacre”, he states, outlining a dramatic scenario . Orsini does not believe that the United States is putting real pressure on Israel to limit the offensive in Gaza. “Mediations are not done through persuasion but through threats. If Biden doesn't tell Netanyahu 'I won't give you any more money and weapons', there will never be mediation. There is no real pressure from the United States on Israel” , says the professor who gets heated when talking about tension between American President Joe Biden and Netanyahu: “It's all rubbish.”
