The news is this: Charles flies. In the first two free practice sessions Leclerc constantly improved with apparent and disarming ease while the other drivers struggled more to push their car to the limit. Result? Absolute domination in FP1 and FP2, with the solo in the second session with an amazing 1’11″278, which is a better time than last year’s pole position (1’11″365), achieved by Verstappen.
And given the importance of qualifying in Monaco, we can say that Charles has already moved forward, very far ahead, for the attack on pole on Saturday at 4pm. We’ll see. It certainly should be underlined that there are five different cars in the top five positions of FP2. And in fact, behind Leclerc were, in order, Lewis Hamilton’s Mercedes, Fernando Alonso’s Aston Martin, Max Verstappen’s Red Bull and Lando Norris’s McLaren, within 675 thousandths of a second. In short, a great balance of forces on the field and therefore everything can happen even more.
Ferrari certainly achieved its objective for the day, which was to lap as much as possible to fine-tune everything: 141 laps were completed in the two sessions, which also allowed the team to test all the rubber compounds available. An enormous amount of work in preparation for the qualifying at 4pm. Now we have to reap the fruits of all this. Ferrari fans hope.
