The Ombudsman for Human Rights in Russia called the actions of the programmer Sergei Savelyev a manifestation of courage, who exposed the torture from the Saratov colony and handed over the video archive to the human rights project gulagu.net. It is reported by TASS with reference to the broadcast of the radio station “Vesti FM”.
The Ombudsman stressed that this person is important for the investigation, since he is the main witness who can convey information that contributes to the objective punishment of those responsible.
“A person who has shown courage to resist this ugly phenomenon,” said Moskalkova.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs put Savelyev on the federal wanted list in connection with the criminal case initiated against him. In addition, the programmer violated the parole rules.
On October 5, the first video recording of the rape of prisoners in the hospital of the Saratov Federal Penitentiary Service appeared on the network, then others appeared. According to human rights activist Vladimir Osechkin, 40 gigabytes of video of the torture of prisoners were filmed by FSIN officers on official video recorders.
