Sturgeon, who leads the Scottish National Party as well as the devolved government in Scotland, says she will issue the first in a series of papers on the independence issue.
Scotland’s people rejected independence in a 2014 referendum, when 55 percent of voters said they wanted to remain in the United Kingdom.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s government is opposing a new vote on independence in Scotland, saying the issue was settled in the previous vote.
But Sturgeon argues that the landscape has changed since then, particularly with Britain’s exit from the European Union, a policy opposed by the majority of Scots.
“If we had known in 2014 all we know now about the course the UK would have taken since then, there is no doubt that Scotland would have voted yes on independence at that time,” Sturgeon said in an interview with the BBC.
