“We need art to evolve as human beings,” says Juliette Binoche, who this Saturday will receive the international Goya
With loud applause from academics and journalists. This is how Juliette Binoche (Paris, 58 years old) was received this Friday at the Real Alcázar in Seville. The protagonist of films such as ‘The English patient’, ‘Three colors: blue’ or ‘Nobody wants the night’ will receive this Saturday the second international Goya that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences awards in its entire history and the French actress I couldn’t be more grateful. “It is an honor for me to receive this award from Spain,” said the interpreter at a press conference that took place in English and in which the death of Carlos Saura, Goya of honor in the 37th edition of these awards, was very present.
Dressed in black pants and jacket, a light blue shirt and with her hair up, Binoche attended the journalists for forty minutes, who were able to ask a total of five questions to a character who spared no time in giving the answers. In the actress’s opinion, the award is an honor because “Spain is a country of artists and art, which is something that inspires me and that we need to evolve as human beings,” she said after naming figures such as El Greco, Velázquez, Gaudí, Lorca or Cervantes.
Committed to her profession, it made sense to delve into the possibility that the protagonist of ‘La verdad’ would make the leap to directing. “I consider that as an actress she is also directed,” said the French woman. «It is an invisible direction, you do not sign the film. You are in the movie and sometimes you are the movie,” said the actress. And she went further: «I love acting, but acting is not what I do. What I do is release something that is not me; through me, that something comes out. It is my life and it is my experience that I have given to these projects ».
That is why it makes sense that when asked about the film that has marked his life, he is unable to answer. “All movies have changed me in unexpected ways. If a movie does not change you, it is because something is not right, “he says.
Binoche advises being willing to take an “emotional or physical leap” and “take a risk with every job.” In this sense, he assures that the audiovisual industry is always stimulating because “each job is different.” «Some directors ask you to improvise and others to say until the last comma. I think that each take must be done as if it were the first and the last, because if not, it’s not worth it and it’s not art. I love all the movies I’ve made,” stressed the French actress.
Seduction
Not surprisingly, the actress acknowledges that there were directors and producers who “wanted to kiss me.” And she does not hide: “I loved making directors fall in love.” Over time, that idea changed. “I was raised by a woman who was very aware of the dangers out there and she raised me to be prepared,” says the actress. In this sense, she assures that #MeToo has “changed her a lot” and supports the women of Iran and Afghanistan.
Binoche made it clear what Sevilla loves. The actress came for the first time on Christmas Eve, with a friend of hers, on an impromptu trip that almost left them without dinner. «I love Seville. We managed to reach an agreement with the hotel and had dinner. So I have a very nice memory of walking under the cold, the blue sky, the orange trees and the wonderful palaces that are in the city », she concludes.
