The successful tour to Japan ended. President Luis Echeverría left Tokyo to return to his country after a six-day official visit to Japan, which sources close to the Mexican delegation considered successful. Cane growers reject credit societies. The great majority of the ejidatarios is rejecting the management of the supplies for the cane through the credit societies, denouncing the fraudulent way in which the officials of the National Sugar Finance Company expose the unification projects to them. The aforementioned agents are causing a division among the peasants, rather than sponsoring the unit, and they want to see them as children, since they do not respond clearly to the questions that the cane growers ask them.
OAS, Yankee ministry. UN. Cuba vigorously denounced the Organization of American States, calling it a “Yankee colony ministry.” Cuba’s ambassador to the UN, Ricardo Alarcón, said that the American regional organization does not have the right to participate, even as an observer, in a special unit to intensify the campaign against racial discrimination in South Africa. The session to be held at the UN on the 21st of this month was convened by the special committee on Apartheid.
Alarcón said that considering the OAS on a level similar to that of the organization for African unity or the League of Arab States constitutes an affront, not only for the peoples of Latin America, but also for the Africans and the Arabs. “Inviting her to participate in an activity promoted by the Apartheid committee also affects the prestige of the UN and of the bodies that have been created to combat racism,” the Cuban ambassador added.
