A TikTok user showed the world a small apartment in the sought-after West Village neighborhood of New York. In a 46-second clip, the user – who goes by the name AJ Webber – offered a short tour of his Manhattan apartment and gave onlookers a glimpse of what they might have to endure if they decided to move to the Big Apple.
“That’s what it’s like to live in the smallest apartment in New York,” said Webber. “Whatever your expectations, lower them.” He then opens a door to reveal a simple, closet-like room measuring about 22 square meters of usable space.

“As soon as you walk in the door, you have the sink,” Webber said. “Right next to the sink is, conveniently located, the kitchen.” Webber then showed his little shelf for food and described how he has “a bowl, a plate”. “The pantry is absolutely stocked,” he joked. “I just realized that all those foods are carbohydrates and they also come in a box. There is no nutritional value here. ”
The kitchen appears to be missing a stove and has only a microwave and a mini-fridge. He then goes to the “rooms” while Webber blinks and points to his bunk, which consists of a queen-size bed on the bottom and a double mattress on top. Webber then lit a purple lava lamp, adding, “Yes, that’s what was missing from the place.” He was also able to somehow get an electric piano under the top bunk.

The tour left viewers horrified at how bad their life situation was. “I lowered my expectations and yet they were too high,” said one user in the comments section.
“My dorm is bigger than that,” added another user. Meanwhile, another comment added a potentially useful tip to increase space: “Why don’t you get rid of your bottom bed and just sleep in the loft and then you have room to sit!!!”
But many also noticed that an important amenity was missing – the bathroom, about which Webber joked, “Didn’t you see the window?”, in response to a bystander’s question. But in reality, he has to share a common bathroom that he posted about in a separate Tiktok video.
Unfortunately, it gets even worse: there is no soap and you have to bring your own toilet paper. “So if you forget, you’ll have to walk back to your room for a while,” Webber explained.
Although the rental price has not been disclosed, a dorm-like room is estimated to cost about $1,600. Webber revealed in a later post that he’s only lived in New York for three weeks.
