After two tarnishing races, in which he was beaten by teammate Daniel Ricciardo, Lando Norris he returned to shine by finishing in sixth place in the Silverstone Grand Prix, while the Australian remained anchored in the slums of the rankings as has now too often happened to him in his experience in McLaren. If Austria will serve Ricciardo as yet another revival attempt, Norris (here our exclusive interview with # 4) will go to the Red Bull Ring aware of his story in the Styrian hills: in five races he has hit two podiums (2020, 2021) and four top-5 finishes. The only exception was the 2019 Grand Prix, when he finished ‘only’ sixth. A position for which, however, he would sign to reach on Sunday: the fault of a McLaren who has fallen back in the hierarchy compared to the last two years.
These are the words of Norris in view of the Austrian GP: “It was great to see so many people in papaya this past weekend. In Austria there is always a great atmosphere and I hope to be able to continue along the lines of what we did at Silverstone. We still have a lot of work to do, but we keep pushing and fighting. I am really excited to be returning to Spielberg for the Austrian Grand Prix. We will have a Sprint and also this is one of my favorite tracks on the calendar, so it promises to be a nice weekend. While we won’t necessarily have to fight for the podium like in the last couple of years, there is definitely an opportunity to score points and have some fun battles.“.
Ricciardo he added: “The Austrian Grand Prix is always a fun event. It is a fantastic track, set in a beautiful setting, it always gives exciting races. The last few Sprints have shown that anything is possible, so I’m ready to seize any opportunities that come my way. The result of the British Grand Prix was not what I wanted, but the fans were sensational and we still have some work to do before this weekend. We are working hard to understand why we lacked the pace and we are doing everything possible to improve in view of the second half of the season. We hope to take some steps forward this weekend and move forward. We keep our heads up“.
