On Wednesday 9 February, the world of Formula 1 experienced some first-tier news regarding teams and drivers: during the morning, McLaren opened the dance by formalizing the contract renewal of Lando Norris, with the English driver who will remain in Woking for the next four seasons, up to and including 2025. Subsequently, in the late afternoon, the Red Bull then presented the new RB18 livery, anticipated by the announcement of the new partnership millionaire reached with Oraclewhich in turn will become title sponsor of the Anglo-Austrian team until 2026.
In both cases, the most surprising aspect concerns not so much the news related to the future of the teams and drivers concerned, as the figures established in the contracts of each reality. Following a chronological order linked to the announcements, the correspondent of PA SportPhilip Duncan, has revealed some details concerning the renewal of Norris in McLaren: based on the data reported by the British journalist, Daniel Ricciardo’s teammate will in fact earn £ 20 million a season, amounting to just over $ 27 million. With this salary, the 22-year-old from Bristol is now the third highest paid driver in Formula 1, placing himself immediately behind Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton in this special classification. Therefore, very high numbers, but not at all comparable to those reserved for Red Bull: specifically, the team – fresh from its success in the drivers’ championship – has just entered history thanks to the partnership signed with the multinational Oracle in the IT sector. The five-year agreement reached with the latter, as reported by racingnews365.c0mis in fact equal to 100 million dollars per seasonswhich will therefore reach half a billion at the end of 2016. In this way, Red Bull can therefore enjoy the richer sponsorship never seen in Formula 1. Figures that, according to the same source, even surpass those of Philip Morris, historic long-term partner of Ferrari.
