Zayed for Human Fraternity is an independent global award that honors individuals and entities that make great contributions towards human progress and peaceful coexistence.
The award was established in 2019 after Pope Francis and Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, signed the historic “Human Fraternity Document” in Abu Dhabi.
Counselor Mohamed Abdel Salam, Secretary-General and member of the jury for the 2023 Prize, said that the committee looks forward to identifying the personalities and bodies that have effectively contributed to finding pioneering solutions to contemporary challenges in the field of promoting human brotherhood.
In addition to Counselor Abdessalam, the 2023 Independent Jury includes other members: Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and High Representative of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations Miguel Angel Moratinos, former Vice-President of Costa Rica Epsy Campbell-Barr, and Dean of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples in the Holy See, Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle; The 2015 Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Widad Bouchamaoui.
Nominations may be submitted by qualified candidates within the following categories: Members of Governments; current and former heads of state; Parliament members; presidents of the supreme courts; senior executives of the United Nations; heads of international NGOs; university presidents; influencers, leaders and thinkers; And former honorees of the Zayed Prize for Human Fraternity.

The award will honor the winners during the annual ceremony to be held on February 4, 2023, the International Day of Human Fraternity recognized by the United Nations, which also coincides with the anniversary of the signing of the Document on Human Fraternity.
It is noteworthy that among the previous honorees of the award are Pope Francis, Pope of the Vatican, and Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb (Honorary); UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and anti-extremist activist Latifa Ibn Ziaten; And King Abdullah II bin Al Hussein of the Kingdom of Jordan and his wife Queen Rania Al Abdullah and the Haitian humanitarian organization Vocal.
