The compact crossover Nissan Juke will soon add a new powertrain to its range. It will be a multi-mode hybrid engine, with always electric ignition, more efficient gearbox and more effective regenerative braking. According to the Japanese brand, “the new hybrid engine perfectly reflects the strengths of the Alliance in terms of engineering solutions“. By Alliance we mean the relationship with the Renault group, and the engine will therefore be a derivation of the successful system E-Tech.
The Juke’s hybrid engine consists of a new generation internal combustion unitwith an output of 69 kW (94 hp) and a torque of 148 Nm, and a Nissan electric motor which produces a power of 36 kW (49 hp) and a torque of 205 Nm. Renault contributed with the 15kW high voltage starter / generator, the inverter, the 1.2 kWh water-cooled battery and the highly innovative gearbox. The advanced low-friction multi-mode gearbox, in particular, will allow you to make the most of the power; to reduce friction, the gearbox uses toothed joints instead of the traditional synchronizer rings for the 4 “ICE” and 2 “EV” speeds, and does not use the clutch.
Like the Leaf and Ariya models, the electric ones from Nissan, Juke Hybrid will also be equipped with the e-Pedal system. When you take your foot off the accelerator, moderate braking is activated (up to 0.15g) which causes the car to decelerate to minimum speed (approximately 5km / h). To bring the vehicle to a complete stop it is always necessary to use the brake pedal (in addition, the Auto Hold function can be selected).
The new version got the “Hybrid” badges, applied on the front doors and on the tailgate; the front grille now has a glossy black trim and features the new Nissan logo on the inside. The design of the grille itself is now mesh, with a texture that optimizes aerodynamic efficiency, a configuration made possible by the lower cooling requirements of the hybrid version. Changes have also been made to the bodywork under the bumper to improve airflow and a closing system for the radiator grille has been added, which allows the air flow to be automatically varied according to cooling needs, reducing aerodynamic drag as much as possible.
The rear spoiler has been re-profiled to allow the rear window to benefit from cleaner airflow. For the same reason, the wheel arches located on the front wheels have also been remodeled and repositioned, while the rear has been enriched with a cover to facilitate the passage of air under the vehicle. The 17 ”alloy wheels with the new two-tone design also make their debut and 19 ”aerodynamic wheels derived from Nissan Ariya.
