The crusade of software houses and gaming giants against the Russia: this time it was Nintendo to take an action against Russian accounts, stopping the transactions requested by Moscow and its surroundings on theeShop. A dutiful and, unfortunately, obligatory decision following the War in Ukraine which is exhausting a people who are experiencing an unjust and completely senseless invasion.
In the past few hours, several users had reported malfunctions regarding the Nintendo eShopin particular its division headed by Russia. In the last few minutes, however, we have understood that it was not a matter of malfunctions but of a very specific choice made by the Japanese giant in solidarity with the Ukrainian people.
Nintendo itself issued a statement to explain to Russian users what was happening:
Due to the fact that the payment service used in our online shop has suspended payments in rubles, the Russian division of Nintendo eShop is temporarily undergoing maintenance. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. We will update you as the situation evolves.
At this point, one wonders if the decision was made directly by Nintendo or if the cause is to be found elsewhere. If it had not been a direct decision of the Japanese giant, we can believe that a fThird party payment service provider in Russia has ceased to process purchases.
We therefore remain awaiting further details that are able to better understand what has been happening in the last few hours and, above all, whether it was a decision taken by the Nintendo board or a malfunction caused by third-party services.
Meanwhile, the gaming world stands in solidarity with Ukraine and condemns, at the same time, the shameful and repugnant actions undertaken by Putin. Pokémonto stay on the subject Nintendoannounced yesterday a donation of 200,000 in favor of GlobalGivinga non-profit agency that deals with humanitarian assistance.
