A few days ago Nintendo of America faced a series of allegations of anti-union crackdowns. An unnamed Nintendo employee had filed a complaint with the National Labor Relations Board.
The complaint alleged that Nintendo of America and the recruitment firm Aston Carter engaged in “coercive action” to discourage workers from creating unions. The charges also included coercive statements, dismissal or refusal to hire employees for trying to organize and other forms of retaliation.
Now comes the official response from Nintendo. The company said the complaint was made by a former employee who was fired from Nintendo, but that the person in question was fired for disclosing “confidential information” and not for a decision to create a union.
“We are aware of the request, which was submitted to the National Labor Relations Board by an employee who was previously fired for disclosing confidential information and for no other reason.“said a spokesperson for Nintendo UK.”Nintendo is not aware of any attempted syndication or related activity and intends to cooperate with the investigation conducted by the NLRB. Nintendo is fully committed to providing a welcoming and supportive working environment for all employees. We take business matters very seriously“.
