Pistorius: In politics you shouldn’t rule anything out
Federal Defense Minister and Social Democrat Boris Pistorius is generally keeping his candidacy for chancellor open. “In politics you should never exclude anything, no matter what it is about,” said the SPD politician at the “People in Europe” event series organized by the Bayern media group in Passau. “The only thing I can definitely rule out is that I will become pope,” said the minister with a wink. The Defense Minister emphasized that Chancellor Olaf Scholz had done a really good job. “And he said he wanted to continue. This is the most normal thing in the world.”
The SPD is debating whether it should go with Pistorius, who is popular in polls, as its candidate for chancellor in the election campaign instead of Scholz. Pistorius said: “Firstly, since I am a deeply loyal person, and secondly, my life plan never included becoming Defense Minister or even Federal Chancellor, I will do a damn thing and say to myself: I’ll do it, I’ll run now. No, you won’t hear that from me. I am a party soldier.”
The minister also spoke about personal matters. He is now 64 years old, lost his first wife to cancer, is happily married again and has two children and two grandchildren. Perhaps one could imagine that he would also decide on something else.
