A new film trilogy of ‘Star Wars‘ written by the producer of ‘X-Men’ and ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’, among many others, Simon Kinberg is in the early stages of development at Walt Disney Co, a source familiar with the matter said Thursday.
Kinberg, who co-created the animated series ‘Star Wars Rebels,’ will also produce the films along with Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy.
Disney hasn’t released a ‘Star Wars’ movie in theaters since 2019’s ‘The Rise of Skywalker.’
The new trilogy will begin with a new story and is not related to the Skywalker sagaaccording to the aforementioned source. No other details regarding the plot or timeline were provided.
Successful saga with many twists
‘Star Wars’, created by George Lucas, is one of the most successful film franchises of all time. The films have grossed more than $5 billion in worldwide ticket sales since the first installment premiered in 1977.
Disney has several ‘Star Wars’ projects in the works. ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’, based on the Disney+ series about a helmeted warrior and his companion, will hit theaters in May 2026.
