Bills dismantle the Rams at the opener
los Angeles The NFL season has begun – and the title favorites have confirmed their status with a convincing win at the defending champions. The Buffalo Bills clearly beat the Los Angeles Rams.
The Buffalo Bills confirmed their status as Super Bowl favorites to start the NFL season with a convincing win over the defending champion Los Angeles Rams. The 31:10 on Thursday evening (local time) put the emotional fans of the Bills in a good mood and long faces among those of the Rams, who hung the banner for the Super Bowl victory in February in the same place before the game at SoFi Stadium had cheered.
The Bills’ matchwinner was quarterback Josh Allen with three touchdown passes and a self-caught touchdown. “We knew that if we played the way we can, we would move the ball and score,” said Allen: “And our defense played a damn good game.” Overall, the 26-year-old made a strong 26 of 31 passes for 297 yards.
On the other hand, Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford got off to a poor start, a touchdown pass faced three interceptions and seven sacks. “It was my fault,” said Rams coach Sean McVay after the bankruptcy, trying to draw criticism from the US media that began immediately. “We’re going to continue in the right way,” McVay said. There had never been a defeat at the start in his six years, and the defending champion often seemed very vulnerable.
The Bills, on the other hand, seem to be among the teams that have legitimate hopes of a really big triumph after the bitter playoff defeat against the Kansas City Chiefs last season. The team is even the top favorite for experts and bookmakers. There’s still a long way to go before the Super Bowl in Glendale, Arizona on February 12, but first impressions were strong. “Our defense played an outstanding game,” said quarterback Allen.
Since this season, part of this strong Bills defense has been Von Miller, who celebrated the title with the Rams in February and has now knocked his former quarterback Stafford down twice. “Lots of emotions,” Miller reported. “I warmed up on the wrong side.” In the game, however, he was on the right track and, after winning the title with the Denver Broncos and the Rams, wants to be the first player to win three Super Bowls with three different teams.
It cannot be ruled out that, like the last time, Odell Beckham Jr. will help him as a teammate in attack. Since the cruciate ligament rupture in the Super Bowl, the receiver’s future has been unclear. While a return to Los Angeles is not out of the question and he would be most welcome there, OBJ has recently been flirting on Twitter with going to the winner of the opening match – and that’s the convincing Bills.
