Journalist says that big techs need to explain why they block content on their platforms
Journalist Allan dos Santos, from the website Free Tuesdaysaid that the group Goal, responsible for Facebook and Instagram, and YouTube need to account for the blocking of content carried out on their platforms. According to Allan, the big techs must explain whether the decision was, in fact, due to non-compliance with the sites' policies or at the behest of the STF (Federal Court of Justice). The journalist had his account blocked on the networks in 2021 by decision of minister Alexandre de Moraes.
“We have an opportunity to see if Facebook, Instagram, Google and big tech acted in accordance with Alexandre de Moraes and not in accordance with the law in the USA. If they are obeying the STF, that is a crime in the USA”, said the journalist, this Wednesday (April 17, 2024), in a podcast with Republican political consultant Roger Stone. Allan is known for his conservative ideals and support for the former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL).
Investigated in 2 investigations at the STF (fake news and digital militias), Allan dos Santos is considered fugitive by Brazilian Justice since 2021. Today, he lives in Orlando, in the United States.
On April 6, his personal profile and that of Terça Livre were reestablished on X (formerly Twitter). During the podcast, the journalist said that the release was made by Elon Musk, owner of the platform since 2023.
According to him, his profiles were returned outside the jurisdiction of Brazil, as his residence is no longer in the country.
Allan also said, without presenting direct evidence, that the federal government asked the Twitter team to ban accounts and justify that the decision was based on the platform's own policy.
This would have occurred before Musk purchased the site. He assumes that the same would have been done on other networks where he is still blocked, such as Instagram.
