Ticino – British extreme kayaker Bren Orton, known for his daring adventures, has been missing since an unsuccessful river trip through the Alps. Since Thursday afternoon, May 16, around 2:45 p.m., Swiss authorities, supported by police from nearby Italy, have been searching for the missing man.

A spokesman for the Ticino police confirmed that the search in the Palagnedra area had so far been fruitless but was continuing. In addition to the cantonal police and the Ascona police, rescue workers from the Locarnese and Valli rescue services are also on duty.
Police reported that the 29-year-old was caught in a current and pulled out of his kayak. Although the emergency services immediately began searching for him, they have so far been unsuccessful. His disappearance was also announced by Pyranha, the sponsor of his kayaks.
The company said it was deeply affected: “It is with a heavy heart that we announce an accident involving Bren Orton. While kayaking with a group on the Melezza River in Switzerland, Bren was hit by a roller and failed to surface.”
