Now he will try to emulate the management of his former mentor Pekerman, who led Colombia to its best historical participation in World Cups, when the coffee team advanced to the quarterfinals of Brazil-2014 after a 16-year absence in World Cups.
Lorenzo’s first experience as DT came at the end of 2020, when he signed for Peru’s Melgar FC.
Until then his career had been linked to that of Pekerman, whom he assisted on the bench of the Albiceleste that reached the quarterfinals of the 2006 World Cup in Germany and the Mexicans Toluca and Tigres de la UANL.
Under Lorenzo’s baton, Melgar shone this season in the local tournament with 34 points in 15 dates and qualified for the round of 16 of the Copa Sudamericana over Racing de Argentina.
Remembered in Colombia for his historic campaign in Brazil-2014 and for reaching the round of 16 in Russia-2018, Pekerman currently manages Venezuela.
To date, seven of the ten South American teams have Argentine coaches.
