The neighbors criticize that the letter, signed by the sole administrator of Borcier SA (company that owns the property), the Marquis Ramón José de la Cierva García-Bermúdez, husband of María de Borbón and de Rojas, describes the situation in the area ” erroneously”, with “inaccuracies and statements that are not true”.

The residents of Reatillo remember that “there has been no other communication route in good condition for the village for many years other than the current one whose bridge has been destroyed by DANA.”
The Marquis’s letter states that the residents of the village “repeatedly” ignored the supposed instructions of the Civil Guard, and that they remained “obstinate in transiting” through the private property of the relatives of the emeritus king. On the contrary, the neighborhood association highlights that the agents of the armed institute went to the area in case they needed medicine or food and offered them to leave the village “if necessary.”

The neighbors reveal that a representative of the village spoke with the daughter of the Marquis of Mairena to offer her the possibility of signing a document to assume the responsibility of walking through his property, thus “exempting” them from any possible claim. “They did not want to accept,” the statement indicates.
The husband of María de Borbón y de Rojas, Marquis of Mairena, also stated in the letter published by elDiario.es that the neighbors crossed their private hunting grounds “with vehicles or on foot.” However, the village statement denies this statement and assures that the only vehicles that have entered are those that provided help to the neighbors.
