At least 17 people, including civilians, were killed in armed clashes between the Taliban (radical movement, banned in Russia) and an armed group in the city of Herat in the northwest of Afghanistan. It is reported by TASS with reference to the newspaper Etilaat Roz.
According to the newspaper, around lunchtime on Sunday, October 24, a shootout began on the streets of the city, which lasted until the end of the day. Among the victims are seven children and three women. Several others were injured and taken to a local hospital.
It is reported that this is the first such armed clash in Herat since the Taliban took control of the city on 12 August.
Earlier it was reported that a car hit a mine in the Afghan city of Jalalabad. The explosion killed a child and injured two more. The incident took place in the Behsud quarter, located in the Eighth district of the city. There are suggestions that the mine was intended for militants of the radical Taliban movement.
