Naughty Dog is a development team known for many franchises, which have evolved over the years. This also means that the company is always ready to create something new and the same is true now.
Indeed, the present of Naughty Dog – Neil Druckmann – has confirmed that the team will not from now on be solely dedicated to its current great success, The Last of Us. There is room for other single player games which will however have the same underlying philosophy.
Druckmann’s words on The Last of Us
Naughty Dog’s action video game is a success across the board. The first chapter arrived on PS3 but continued to generate sales on every platform thanks also to the remaster for PlayStation 4 and the remake for PS5 (currently on sale, among other things). Furthermore, the saga has become a TV series. The sequel arrived on PS4 and received a remaster for PS5. There is undeniably room for the IP to grow, but Naughty Dog doesn’t want to be just the team behind The Last of Us.
“I promise you,” Druckmann said, “that we won’t be the Last of Us studio forever. We create experiences that are deeply grounded in story and character, especially relationships,” he explained. “Stories have a sort of philosophical core around which everything revolves and feeds.”
Druckmann added that the team has “multiple single-player projects” in development. Even if they are not all The Last of Us, they will always be founded on the idea of giving priority to the story and the characters.
