Naturgy has stepped on the accelerator to meet the objectives of its new 2025-2027 strategic plan. The company has signed an agreement with Bioeco Energías to join its large biomethane plants development project in Spain.
According to sources consulted by electionomista.esboth companies have agreed to the development of new facilities with joint capacity to produce more than 500 GWh per year, which raises the capacity that the company already has in development to 3,000 GWh.
This figure assumes that the company has already reached two thirds of the objective that was set in its business plan (4,500 GWh per year), for which it will invest up to 800 million euros.
The new production will be added to the projected in the alliance signed recently by Naturgy and Hispania Silva. The company closed the purchase of 14 projects. Specifically, these are Bio Madridejos, Biobarrax Albacete, Bio Tarancón, Bio Caspe, Gnr Andalucía, Median Biogas, Bio Carmona, Bio Criptana, Bio Membrilla, Bio Corral de Almaguer, Lucainena Biogas, Bio Loja, Bio Vilches and Bio Tobarra that have been developed by the Spanish Hispania Silva.
This figure is equivalent to the annual consumption of 600,000 homes and, from an environmental point of view, will reduce CO2 emissions by an amount equivalent to the planting of 59 million pines.
The biomethane produced in these plants will be distributed to homes and industries through existing gas networks, without requiring additional investments in the energy facilities of the final consumer. This makes renewable gas a strategic energy vector to boost a competitive and fair energy transition with a clear commitment to the circular economy.
The projects signed with Hispania Silva and Bioeco Energies provide a sustainable management solution to local waste, contributing to the circular economy and returning to the field kilometer 0, organic, and non -polluting irrigation water for their soils.
Naturgy also reinforces its commitment to the circular economy through its entry into the capital of Reycle, company of the Hispania Silva group that will be responsible for waste management for new plants and those included in the agreement with Hispania Silva.
José Luis Gil, general director of Naturgy Renewable Gases values the knowledge, empathy and territorial proximity of Bioeco Energías and its sensitivity to the rural environment.
“We are delighted with this alliance with Bioeco Energies. It brings us its experience in the territory, which allows us to know firsthand the needs and sensibilities of the environment with which we are going to live during the operation of our plants,” he explained.
In the words of Leticia Sanchiz, CEO of Recycle, “Naturgy gives us the peace of mind that the projects will be carried out with the guarantee of compliance with all security standards.”
Naturgy wants to be the leading company in the impulse of renewable gases in the Iberian Peninsula, both in the production and distribution of biomethane in the short term, and in the development of hydrogen as an energy vector that will have a significant impact on the medium-long-term energy mix.
The company is well positioned to take advantage of the opportunity offered by renewable gases to move towards decarbonization and is willing to deploy significant investments and resources in this business.
Naturgy already has three own production plants in operation to which two other facilities that are in advanced development or construction in Utiel (Valencia) and Utrera (Seville) will be added in the coming months.
