Marin spoke about the NATO situation at Sdp’s campaign launch in Helsinki.
Prime minister Sanna Marin (sd) estimates that Finland may have to consider the formation of a temporary minority government if the NATO membership process threatens to be further prolonged.
Marin spoke about the matter to journalists at the start of the Sdp’s election campaign.
“We live in a security situation where we have to be constantly operational. Even after the elections, the parliament and the parties together will of course have the opportunity to influence the ability to function, even if we have the executive ministry in use,” said Marin.
In practice, the editorial ministry refers to the government that submitted its resignation, which is expected to handle mostly “routine matters” and not to take, for example, political initiatives.
Republic president Sauli Niinistö In an interview with HS this week, he was concerned about Finland’s ability to operate in the spring, if the government negotiations threatened to be prolonged and the NATO process was still in progress.
Niinistö also talked about it with the party leaders. For HS, he estimates that, in theory, Finland could even establish a kind of “one-issue government” if there are no other means.

On Saturday, Marin seemed to agree.
“I personally also consider it possible that if the situation were to become very difficult, even quickly, it would also be possible in Finland to form, for example, a one-party minority government with the broad support of the parliament for that interim period,” the prime minister told reporters.
“[Väliaikainen hallitus] would also be able to function as a political government in matters of foreign and security policy and bring proposals and initiatives to parliament very quickly.”
News agency Bloomberg reported on Friday, based on anonymous insider sources, that Turkey would be ready to ratify Finland’s NATO membership by March at the latest.
Ratification would possibly take place without Sweden.
According to Bloomberg sources, the president of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is leaning towards the fact that Finland has already done enough to dispel Turkey’s security concerns.
According to sources, the announcement of Finland’s acceptance into NATO may be made before the break of the Turkish parliament, which is scheduled to take place in mid-March before the May elections.
Foreign minister Pekka Haavisto (vihr), on the other hand, said on Monday the Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu confirmed that the possibility of Finland’s NATO ratification has already been discussed in Turkey during the term of the current parliament.
Marin emphasized on Saturday that simultaneous membership would continue to be in the interests of Finland and Sweden as well as NATO.
“Of course, we cannot influence the ratification processes of other countries. If Turkey and Hungary decided to ratify these applications separately, we wouldn’t be able to do anything about it,” he said.
