The violence threatens the lives of more than 800,000 civilians, the UN humanitarian coordinator for the Sudan region said.
UN has expressed concern that in the Sudanese civil war in the Darfur region, heavy weapons have been used in attacks on the town of al-Fashiri, home to more than 800,000 civilians.
According to UN information, a large number of civilians wounded in the attacks have been taken to hospitals in the area and a large number of people are trying to escape from the area. There is no exact information on the number of victims of recent attacks.
“I am very concerned about the outbreak of clashes, despite the fact that the parties have been repeatedly urged to avoid attacking the city. The violence threatens the lives of more than 800,000 civilians,” said the UN humanitarian coordinator for the Sudan region Clementine Nkweta-Salami in the statement.
The United States warned last month that rebel forces were plotting an attack on a city in the central African state that has been a major hub for humanitarian aid in the country’s civil war.
